The Story Behind zzo

as told by Ozan Alparslan himself
zzo appears to be a new resident, however this has been a fairly long and slow evolution.

As a musician, I took the well known path of taking classical piano lessons, discovering Metallica and learning to play the guitar, composing some songs, forming some bands, making some gigs, learning to sing, producing my own music and finding myself trying to handle everything from photoshopping the web site images to constructing acoustic treatment panels at midnight.

On the other hand, the story is not a miserable one at all. I have appeared in great albums with Ominous Grief, Dreamtone, Neverland and Maegi. I had the opportunity to play along with incredible musicians of Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, Savatage, Shadow Gallery, Grave Digger, Evergrey on some of those albums. I even had the opportunity to play at the opening gigs of Dream Theater, Blind Guardian and Tiamat shows.

But that was only the beginning in becoming zzo... All those years I have been experimenting with what I'm capable of, recording riffs, composing songs, and piling all those unreleased stuff. There was a point where I just wanted to get rid of all the notes, patiently waiting to be taken out of the drawers for ages. So, I decided to make a solo album out of those ancient material. And that was the first time zzo came to life.

At first, it was intended to be a collaboration project between friends. So I called the guys I have worked with all those years, wanted to include as many of them as I can. As a producer with no budget, I did the most stupid thing to be done by recording 13 musicians on 10 different studios in 2 cities. Luckily, with Alp Turaç on the mixing board, we managed to blend things together and inalized the first zzo album. The album was released by Arpej Productions on the fall of 2013.

Then, I wanted to go further with the project. Another collaboration was organized with another set of friends with visual skills and the first music video of zzo was shot, by award winning photographer Murathan Ozbek, for the song, "Oyun". On 2014, I wanted zzo songs to be played live on stage. Teaming up with Erman Peker, Baran Bursalıgil, Seltay Sobutay and Emrah Cokunlu, the project evolved to a band and made a few gigs. Sadly, there was not enough time available, for us full-timers, to keep it going.

As years passed, I realized that despite all the effort put by all those great people who have always been by my side, zzo was too personal. It was not a project or a band, it's the musician self I carry, the burden I've been holding. Stating it otherwise was nothing more than a lie I've been telling to myself.

So today, zzo evolved to a personal journey, creating music to my hearts extent at my room, freed from any non-musical concerns.

zzo's songs are not designed to be radio friendly – not following any rules or formulas that hit the charts of todays mainstream music scene. You will not find 3-minute catchy songs hooking an average Joe to love at the first time. To be honest, these songs are solely created from experiments following personal tastes
